Advanced Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Training Description:

The Advanced TF-CBT two-day training provides therapists with extended training in the application of TF-CBT.  The training is designed for therapists who previously completed a two-day introductory TF-CBT training and are actively implementing the model in their therapeutic work. Various interactive workshops by multiple presenters will be offered. Participants will have the opportunity to select sessions meeting their specific therapeutic interests.

Anticipated Training Topics:

  • Ethical considerations in the implementation of TF-CBT
  • Incorporating family culture and spirituality into the TF-CBT healing process
  • Engaging and working with caregivers in TF-CBT
  • TF-CBT model adaptations for young children and adolescents
  • Considerations for managing youth sexual behavior problems in TF-CBT
  • Incorporating assessment results into Psychoeducation
  • Addressing child behavior problems in the PRAC skills
  • Bringing gradual exposure into the PRAC skills
  • Teaching the Triangle: making the cognitive triangle engaging and fun in session
  • Setting up the Trauma Narrative: Introducing and structuring the narrative process
  • Navigating the trauma narrative – Skills practice in narrative draft development
  • Processing negative trauma-related cognitions with youth and caregivers
  • Strategies for supervising TF-CBT therapists
  • Top 10 rookie TF-CBT mistakes and how to avoid them
  • Special Populations – Domestic Violence, Parental Substance Abuse, etc.

Training Prerequisites:

  1. Master’s level therapist or higher
  2. Licensed or under licensure supervision
  3. Completion of TF-CBT Web
  4. Completion of 2-day Introductory TF-CBT training
